you know how when you have, o i dont know, say and 80 gig and out of te box you connect it and it reads (i believe) 74 gb. How can I clear uop some of that 6 gigs that i assume is taken up by software etc....

ive been meaning to research this for awhile its just always slipped my mind I guess.

it's not taken, it only has 74 gigs

hard drive vendors are to blame.  an 80 gig drive is not actually 80 gigs in the 1 gigabyte = 1024^3 bytes definition.  hard drive vendors go by 1 gigabyte = 1000 ^ 3 bytes
