Very nice.  Just picked up a HV30 myself.  How do you like that wide angle lense?  Can you link me?

Have you looked into a doubler?

I got the wide angle from newegg.com  B and H was out of stock.  The wide angle rarely leaves the camera, its really good for those indoor shots.

i have not looked into a doubler

How's the DM-50? Can it handle loud live shows? I'm thinking of buying an axternal mic since the internal ones are bad as on all Canon cams (for loud sounds).

Also don't you think that it is limiting to not have a LP mode? I switched from the HV30 to HF10 myself since I didn't like changing tapes for the last 5 minutes of a 65 minute show (sure there are the 80 minute tapes but they are too expensive for my taste).

i can use firestone to connect to a HD thru the HV30 for additional space if needed.

I would not use the DM- 50 for loud concerts.  Its a good mic, professional ( style grade audio) so not quite the SPL needed for a concert, i would go with an xlr mic such as the AT 897

everything was on auto, haven't tried manual focus or manual exposure yet.  Compared to the other consumer cams I've owned (Sony HC21, Sony PC100, Sony PC1000) this dialed into the contrast of bright lights/dark stage pretty well.  There is just a slight delay while it readjusts, compared to the others which took a couple seconds to dial in.

I've just done the HDV 1080 setting so far.  Haven't tried HDV 24p 1080 but apparently that will brighten things up if you're concerned with low light.

I paid 743.00 U.S at BandH photo

It really gives a nice picture, the only shortcoming is that audio is below professional grade.  A boom mic would be better for audio.  I even have an attached mic but that too pics up motor noise, but does produce nice audio but not great audio.
