apogee miniMP ?
« on: October 10, 2006, 07:18:39 AM »
who runs one of these?

I just bought a brand new one on ebay for about 1/2 of the retail price.  I've always like the 140>MMe combo, minus the round bottom bloat of the preamp (actualy, its been the ak50 caps that i really think shine w/the Mme).  but the apogee sound in general has always been favorable to me.

so now i'll be running this miniMP > 671.  I'm just wondering if there are any coments from users ?  Should be fun w/the LSD2 when using its M-S controlls.  Plus, its nice to have pretty lights in my bag again.  I hope I'll be able to stealth it as easily as I have been w/my UA5.
What little i've read suggests is a HQ piece of gear w/more in common with the TRACK2 sound than the MMe.  Nice to have a HQ preamp w/all the fixin's.  Its not my V2, but can't complain for the price I paid.  It was basicaly an even swap for my ua5 (in terms of sale vs purchase price), so I dont think I can go very wrong there.  T+ua5>140 did very little for me sonicaly.

Darayn Lenz used to fluff the miniMP a lot...not sure if he still runs it though.

After your review of the ACM660 I'm surprised you didn't go with the ACM671.

impatient, thats all.  That, and the timing of selling my UA5 and just happening to find this Mme for rediculously cheap money
ACM, or whatever the "super mod" is for that box will be in my future as well, and I'll keep whichever sounds better.

I've been trying to decide if I want a ACM 671 or a 671 with a pre in front.
I was thinking about neve 5012 > 671, I forgot all about the MiniMP that might work just as good for less bucks.
I'm envious.

Senor Nizzel, on the Colorado Crew, is/ was an Apogee lover. He ran the MiniMP for a while. I bet he could give you some feedback.

It's a great box very clean, tight low end completely different sound then the mme, You won't beable to stealth with it though.  It's big and it has bright lights

I can stealth anything!
bright lights dont do shit if the bag is closed.
:)

should be here soon.  I spoke w/the company I bought it from that told me it is shipping directly from Apogee.
I still can't believe I got this thing for $510.

I always thought these looked great and have wanted to try one for a while...

When you inevitably sell this thing in two months to "try something new" keep me in mind.   ;D

I liked mine quite a bit.  The sound is overall a bit drier with more punch as compared to the mini-me.  I still have yet to figure out why the mini-me is bloated.  I think it has more to do with lack of capacitance and slew rate in the power supply, but I am working on it.  The mini-mp was a joy to use, but in the end I decided I liked my modded fr-2 just as well and ultimately sold the mini-mp for just under what I paid for it.  If I got out more, I would still have it.  Great purchase Nick.  f you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Tell me this isn't going to be another $750 power supply? :P

It might be interesting to bypass their p/s and feed it something else just for testing..

I actually run a mp with the 671. I use the Peluso cemc6 mics with it and love the combo, a lot. Clean and tight with just enough warmth to keep things smooth. It's my favorite pre hands down. I've used a v3 and like this better for the slight color it adds. Of course, everyone's ears are different. Great price btw!
