Ok, looks like I will soon be joining the ranks of Team SuperLux.  

So, I will need to phantom power.

It looks like I can get a Denecke PS-2 for around $130ish, or I could save up a few more bucks and get a UA-5...  (modding it would be no prob for me so not an issue)

As I already have a AD-20 Mod, if I go the PS-2 route I would have both stand and stealth taken care of.  And with my AT853's I could go stealth phantom easily...

If I go the UA-5 route, I would only be taking care of stand (for the most part) and I would also have to invest in batteries...

I am leaning towards the PS-2 route, am I going to regret it?

depends on how much stealth vs. stand taping you do, if you do more stand, invest in a ua5, if you do more stealth, go the ps-2 way, but if your going to basically get the ua5 for phantom then id gop the ps2 route

the ps2>ad-20 combo can be very nice, i love the 480>ps-2>ad20 tapes i have FWIW

if you like the sound of the superlux then I think you will enjoy the ps-2. I have found that the ps-2 is very neutral where the ua5 will color the sound more. Just depends on what you are after.

also, something to remember- if you do the digi mod yourself (meaning you wouldnt have purchased it from the oade brothers) then oade won't mod the unit if you want that done later

Now the hard part, determining which mics to use... Sometimes its good not to have choices

Get some Audix 1290's if you have the cash! Stealthable and stand mountable. I'd get them if I could afford them.

That wouldn't solve the phantom power issue, but those are nice mics...

I have been using a PS-2 with a Superlux SMK-H8K stereo mic kit and have had good results so far.

Yeah for some reason I thought he was looking for mic opinions, so I threw that out there, but he just wanted opinions for phantom power units, I believe. I'm sure he knows he could run those mics w/ a PS2.
