Desktop mic stand solid extensions, any suggestions?
« on: December 09, 2017, 11:15:09 AM »
I can't seem to find a solid 6-10 inch or so extension for my On-Stage DS7200 Adjustable Desk Microphone Stand. Right now it extends to about 14 inches high. It terminates in a male 5/8 thread for a mic clip or t-bar.

There are flexible gooseneck extensions available out there but I want something solid to extend my mics just a little bit more on the occasions I need to use this stand. I use this at one particular venue I frequent when running mics and soundboard. It fits nicely on top of the effects rack there.

Here's a link to what I have now- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002M3OVI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!

Is this what you're looking for? https://www.amazon.com/Atlas-Sound-AD-8B-Extension-Tube/dp/B000ZGVWCY
That looks like what I need although it appears I'd need an adaptor to connect it. And it's not worth twice the price of the stand it would be extending, at least not worth it to me.
Thanks, Perry.

Oops, I just noticed the male threads at each end. Shure makes a 3" extension, male/female but at $8 each you're going to pay $24 by the time you make 9". A few years ago I searched for 5/8-27 stock for a similar project but couldn't find it anywhere. Let us know if you find something that works.

I've got two of these. They're similar in build quality to the Manfrotto 122B - but a bit smaller (33-53 cm) and the spigot is removable/interchangeable on one end.

I'm pretty sure there are similar knock-off items under different names.

The 33cm length looks to be about perfect and is as long as I'd want to extend, assuming that with a pair of mics or a single stereo mic which is often the case, the stand is still stable. I will keep my eyes open for something like that available in the CONUS.
Thanks!

Convert from that 5/8-27 thread to 3/8-16
Then you can build a series of adaptors from all-thread rod stock.  I have a mess of different adaptors and extensions built this way.
I use the 3/8-16 all thread, and thread rod ferrule connectors (far longer nuts meant to connect thread rod pieces together).

I have several flexible gooseneck extensions that I use - two lengths of 30" each and a short one that's maybe 6 ". They are plenty sturdy for a pair of SDC mics and mounts. Got em dirt cheap at a music instrument store on clearance.

I was wondering about the 6" goosenecks and their stability. Maybe I'll give one a try, those are pretty easy to find and relatively cheap.
Thanks everyone for the input, always appreciated!

Goosenecks vary in quality.  Mine are about 16 inches and droop every time.
