Almost done digi-modding my ua-5
« on: November 14, 2005, 05:50:53 PM »
i already cut the copper line to the usb output, and i am now moving on to the soddering part.  I found a phone cable and got the copper out of it.  I also removed to covering from the edges...now its soddering time.  I have a little bit of a osddering background, but i am very afraid that something is gonna go wrong...any words of advice to make it easier...i was thinking about putting a piece of tape around the out sides of where i want to sodder so i dont burn anything surrounding it.  Will that work>

Be sure to tin the ends of your jump wire first, and pre bend the wire to line up to the two points.

I used needle nose pliers to hold it into place

I would reccoment using a solid core jump wire instead of braided but if thats all you got it will suffice.

yea put some flux on the tip of the wire and then apply some solder and let it cool.  Then the wire is tinned and ready to be soldered into place.  Use a very small ammount of solder on your iron

if you have a friend or someone around to lend a hand it will help a lot - have them hold the jumper in place so you can be stra steady with your iron, easier than it looks, you'll be fine.
