So I ran my new UBB into the DR-2d mic in for the first time the other day and levels were a little low.  I understand with a BB the mic in should usually be used.  Settings were no power, gain low, volume 70.  The concern is that the levels were a little low and the file has to be amplified over 18db to get it to -.01.  Is there something I am doing wrong or is this normal?
The problem with most of the tascam recorders is the preamps are very weak. They do not provide a huge amount of gain. So.... in some situations and definitely with my mics + a dr I would recommend a preamp. I will say if you are using your stereo for a test source this might be the issue, My mics generally speaking put out around -36 to -28 db at 1k at 114db. Any mic with the same general sensitivity as my mics and with my mod will perform around the same output levels.
