which is "better"? (gain adjustment)
« on: April 14, 2014, 03:15:23 PM »
local venue has been running louder then usual the last few outings and my gain was dialed in (peaks at -10) but now its borderline clipping
I have 2 options really…
1 - lower the gain on my tiny box from mid to low.
AND
on my dr-60d from mid to low (2 sets of mice, 1 preamp each)
2 - keep my tinybox where it is and attenuate on the m10 by lowing the side know from 4 down as far as 1
the dr-60d has an automatic -6db options that you can use when recording 2 channels so for now I can do that

so the question is, which is a "better" option for the tinybox > m10 - lower the preamp gain or on the recorder?

Lower the levels on your Tinybox if the increased volume is causing it to peak.  If you overload your Tinybox, attenuating on the M10 will only lower a clipped signal.  If you have headroom on the Tinybox, drop your M10 levels so it doesn't cause clipping.
