Is a CA9200 OK to power a pair of AT853s?
« on: September 24, 2015, 08:58:04 AM »
A mate of mine recently picked up a pair of AT853s.

I have a spare CA9200 pre that I was gonna loan him but wanted to make sure it would be OK to power them.

Cheers

pre - CA9200, CA9100
recorders - Edirol R09hr, Tascam DR1

It will work if the ATs are configured to be 2-wire, with the pair connected to a stereo TRS mini-plug.  That's how they are commonly used around here, how Darktrain does them, Sound Pros, etc.

It will not work if the ATs are configured as 3-wire, which is how they are supplied from AT.  You'd need either 3-wire to 2-wire adapters or a 3-wire batterybox or preamp rather than a standard 2-wire CA9200.
