get a field mixer. i think that's what you are trying to accomplish, but i'm not 100% sure.

If you want to mix to mic signals together then yes a mixer is what you'd want.  The way i read your post though is you want to take 2 seperate sets of mics & record on the same recorder.  A field friendly way would be to record onto a laptop via 2 VX pockets or a Nuendo multiset.  You could also use multitracking gear like an Alesis, but that would be extremely expensive & you'd have to hall some big ass batteries for field use.

From this description, it sounds like to me like you're just talking about two different sets of gear - which, of course, can be done easily.  Please clarify.

2 sources on one tape..hmm...dunno why in the world you would want to do this, but you could sum both rigs down to mono, and run one source into L and one source into R. Seems to me you'd be much better off getting a second recorder. Maybe I'm still not understanding what you are trying to accomplish here.

I guess what i was trying to say is if you ran some mics and a mme and recorded through one software.  If you could run the vx pocket and record to some other software.  If this is not clear nevermind

ok, so you want to record more than 2 tracks (ie 2 stereo pairs) like the source from say schoeps > v3 and mbho > minime at the same time...
yes absolutely this is possible, but you have to have it set up right.  first you need mutitrack software.  i would not recommend having 2 separate audio applications open simultaneously, that sounds like a good way to crash your laptop.  let me give you a simpler example....
a friend of mine has the nuendo multiset (an 8-in box) which has a pcmcia interface to his laptop (picturebook).  he runs sonar 2.0 which allows multitracking, thus he can use more than 2 inputs, like 4, and record off of 2 rigs, a rig and the soundboard (stereo), etc.
in theory all you need is enough inputs and software than can handle them all at the same time.  in theory if you have a mme and a vx pocket and can set cool edit or sonar or whatever software to use both of them, you'd have 4 inputs and could use them for whatever sources.
using one piece of software may help synchronize the files also.
hope that makes sense and helps.
