How do you mod a stock 7-pin?
« on: October 01, 2003, 02:53:58 PM »
I was thinking of buying another 7-pin but I dont want to throw down 140.  How do you mod a stock 7-pin cable? I think id rather just mod it myself since I have all the tools and im not in a hurry to get it done.  If anyone could give me some directions I would greatly appreciate it.

sorry should have made it clear -> I would buy the sony 7-pin then mod it so it sends and recieves signals.  Building a 7-pin is way out of my league. thanks for the links ;)

I believe the above links will also help you mod the 7-pin for both in/output.

There are really 2 ways to do this:

[1]  take the digi-out from the deck via 7-pin and route it to the output RCA

[2]  Split the signal from the input RCA so it routes to both the 7-pin and the output RCA

The links should help you determine which of the 7 pins to use for [1].  I believe the Oade/ProDig aftermarket 7-pins are set up like [1].

well I just gave in and bought one from pro digital and they are switches the connectors to right angles and it was about $122 total.  Hopefully the one I have now works and ill just store this new one.  All depends on my soldering ::)

I made my own active 7 pin out of a Sony cable. At rat shack you buy a Y adapter and drill the rivet out so it comes apart. Then you take the 7 pin head apart VERY carefully. There are clips that can break if you are not carefull. I used cat 5 cable to go from the 7 pin head to the Y adapter. My cable resembles the Oades cable. Which is the best cable out there.

I don't have any. But I can say the active one is the hardest to build. You can make one out of the removed SBM-1 7 pin. Or the remote units you could buy to hook your D7,D8,D100,M1 up to a stereo and use a remote with. Those already have the cable connected to the 7 pin, you just have to figure out which cable is what. Of course these cables are not active.
