MixPre D questions
« on: January 08, 2013, 04:51:27 PM »
I have a PCM-D50 (great little recorder), an iPad and a Mac. And recently acquired the MixPre D. I'd like to have a solid digital connection to my recorder if possible. Right now the best sound seems to come via usb to the mac or iPad but those aren't good options for a quick ENG bag for one man shoot and capture. Any other alternatives out there? There is the SD 702 route but would love to find a recorder that is half that cost.

I have tried the line out to the PCM-D50 but the quality doesn't match what I get via usb into the mac.

Also, anyone developed a best practice using the MixPre D and canon DSLRs?

Marantz Professional PMD661 with Sound Devices MixPre-D is a great combo.

Thanks DigiGal. I have read that the PMD661 is a good combo; but, to get digital do I need a specific cord? I have read where many audio techs have made their own but I'm no where near that league.

The impedance matched AES to S/PDIF cable is here.  If you pick up a PMD661 let me know if you need one.

Should try the Sound Devices USBPre 2, Toslink out > line in d50 (optical in)
