Laptop batt question?
« on: October 12, 2003, 07:23:57 PM »
So i dug up this thread in the computer recording forum.

http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=5;action=display;threadid=3234;start=0

& wanted to see if anyone tried this batt out?
http://www.batteryspace.com/product.asp?0=238&1=287&3=172

My laptop has an internal 11.1v 5400mah now. But the computer is 3 years old & the battery has no memory left. In record mode it lasts around 35 minutes.

I know a valance is the way to go. But I need a cheep fix for the moment.

Thanks
Jeff

It will work with most lappy's although you may want to get two of them and split at setbreak!

I can set my screen to turn off after so many minutes is this the same as y'all say closing the lid.

I've never noticed any effect from opening/closing the lid on my laptop during shows... Its essentially the same as power management turning off the lcd panel.

but you should always test your setup in a controlled environment before going in the field.... learned the hard way.

Damn. The 5ah was the biggest anyone had. Do you think this will last 5 hours while taping?

The package say it will last 5 hours. Or watch 2 DVD's in a row with power to spare.  but if Jon has the 10ah & it lasts 5 hours or a little more it makes me wonder?

Anyone have the 5Ah?

there should be a setting that closing the lid "does nothing"...otherwise it may send you into standby mode or shut off the pc or shut off the HD depending on how it's set.  it should automatically shut off the screen.

I'll post back how long the 5ah unit runs. I'm testing it out DTB tonight & 2 nights of Panic this weekend.

I ran 2 hours of taping & an hour on last night & Kept the screen on. Looks like I have 40% power left on the valance.

Panic will be the true test.

Kindguy,
What type of laptop are you recording to? Also, what is your sound card? Just curious as I use a VX Pocket and a Dell Latitude. With an 18amh SLA, I can record for over 6 hours with the screen on and lide open. But damn, that shit's killin' my back, and the valence sounds like my indoor solution.

Thanks for the info   :)

HP pavilion n5150
40 gig HD (being installed tomorrow)  :)
800 MHz processor
198 ram

I'm running warm UA-5 via USB

My Valance ran the whole Panic show. 3 hours of tape...errr audio. With 2 lights left (less than 40 %)

I set the screen to turn off after 2 min. & maybe checked it 8 times. Plenty of battery

Valance is light & easy to stash in the bag. I suggest getting one. Keep the SLA's for festivals.
