any one ever had to replace the crystal in their 1K? how much am i looking at? dont need to yet, but it seems like it has been cycling longer before it locks, when its cold. just preparing myself for the worst. also isn't there some kind of mic line in upgrade too?

I think the crystal replacement is a $400 job, maybe slightly more. It's expensive though, that's for sure. fwiw, it seems like 10 passes of the light before the ad1k locks is about standard. I've checked 4 different units now, all of them lock up at 10 passes of the light.
The upgrades are all listed in the manual and are all installed on the platinum edition, iirc.

me?! I have never had mine recrystaled and I am not sure what would be a good indicator of when you should. Do, I am useless on this thread! ;) I have heard that if you call Apogee the are very nice to speak with, although I havent tried it. While you are talking with them, find out if they can send you revision details and the preamp upgrade...
