Apple G3 IBook playback
« on: November 12, 2004, 01:03:19 AM »
has anyone hooked an IBook up to a surrond system?  I would assume it would involve getting a sound card to connect to a receiver, ect... has anyone done this yet that may have some advise?  the reason i ask is because one of my friends just got a G3 and was planning to use this as a "jukebox" for a bar. we are searching for an inexpensive way to connect his G3 to a couple of speakers that would provide ample sound to fill a small bar.  neither of us really have the "technological know how."  any thoughts on where to start?

+ RCA cable + stereo reciever/amplifier/speakers of your choice
Denon AVR 3808ci > Paradigm Reference Studio 20 + Velodyne DLS 3750

good on the cheap, however for better quality playback you do yourself some justice by not using your headphone out jack as those tend to be very very very (did i say very?) noisy.

Is this ibook capable of using a USB soundcard? I'd go in that direction and see if you can get a digital out of that machine.
Out of the game … for now?

+1 on the Airport Express, been using one for a few months now and they are awesome!  Entire iTunes to my stereo, haven't touched my 300disc player since I got it!

I will be using my DAC for this I've decided.  I need to move my gigantor set of Itunes files to my pc and then ill be broadcasting from that since it is a desktop :)

thanks guys for the fast replies.  as far as budget, b/w $500-$1000 dollars. haven't heard of this airport express, but it looks ideal. I'm still a little apprehensive about the whole wireless deal. I don't know why? It may be time to give it a try

Airport Express will run you about 130$ or so!  (And while I knock on wood here) I have not had any issues with it, performed flawlessly so far with some pretty heavy use!

And your head is spinning from a loud guitar . . .
