AKG 391's..UA-5 warm or presance?

Any experiences with this combo?  I know its usually preference, but which pre seems to work the best with the AKG 391's?

I've heard some shows with the warm mod and they sound great. Oade (if that matters) suggests w-mod for the 391's.

I've ran the w-mod 391 combo for a while.  Differnt situations they could sound really good, but overall all a little too much bass for me.  I haven't heard them with the p-mod so can't make that comparison.

most people run the W-Mod and i'v heard some steller tapes w/ that rig.

If it where me i'd try and dig up a few tapes made with each and listen to them for comparison ... or even better an actual comp tape, but i doubt one exists.

best tapes i made with 391s were 391s > ps2 > mod sbm1

but i did some tapes at a local festival with 391s > warm mod ua5, and also did some of the same source with sbd mixed in via the rcas

i would offer them up to anyone that would like a listen

^^ I was going to run DMIC-20 but had some issues with one and the experience didn't leave a warm fuzzy feeling in my stomach to consider another....and I thought it over...I have a laptop too and may want to take advantage of 24/96 so I opted for a warm UA-5

i've run both with my old 391's.  the wmod ua5 blows about the stock ua5.  i love my wmod ua5.  so much so that now i run akg480's->ua5(wmod).  hit me up with a pm and i'll see what i can do about hosting some samples.

Rhys (Hermann2burn) has a P-mod UA5. Pretty sure you can find some of his NYC-area Panic seeds.
