Here's what I want to do... what would be best?
« on: May 17, 2005, 10:22:29 PM »
Alright.. Here's my story.

I would like to video record drumline's mostly outdoors during the daytime. So I would like a miniDV camera. So from what I see I need a decent camera and since audio will be important I would like a mic input on it. For the money I think the Canon Elura 70 is the best for me in the under $500 range.  link

Is this a good choice? What else should I think about getting. This will actually be my first video camera.

Here's what I've come up with so far

a bunch of miniDV tapes
firewire cable
maybe a external mic (not sure what kind)

show I be thinking about any UV lens or anything? I have capture software.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

I just went looking at cameras today and it's tough to find an inexpensive one that doesn't use automatic gain control on the mic input.  This will pretty much destroy your sound no matter what mic you put on it.  See if you can find one with full manual control.

Otherwise, you could consider recording it separately and synching the 2 sources after the fact.

It would be gread if I could but it would be pretty hard to record everything because I wil be the only one doing this. This year I'm just looking for something decent that will work. I plan on getting something like a GL2 next year.

Having done a lot outdoor recording for various Renaissance Faires and the like, the next thing I'm buying is an external mic with a WINDSCREEN! A slight breeze across the built-in mics sounds like a 'kiin earthquake.
