so dvd guys.  I know I have seen this error/warning from time to time with nero as I'm sure most of you have.  dvd will rip just fine but when using nero to burn you get this error/warning.  most of the time the dvd will play just fine but if you rip the burned copy you will still get the error when trying to burn it.  this happened to me again last night so I did a little research.  found a thread on cd freaks about this very thing.  one post said to do this.

I too get the same error in Nero "dvd files reallocation failed....."
after reading some posts, I tried the following (and it worked):

- I deleted or otherwise removed ALL files from VIDEO_TS folder
except the actual movie files (*.VOB)

- I downloaded, unzipped and ran IFOEDIT, then clicked on
"Create IFO" button, and pointed to the first VTS_01_1.VOB file.

- after a few minutes IFOEDIT examined the whole folder and created
4 new files (two IFOs and two BUPs)

After this Nero burned this DVD without an error.

so I got IFOEDIT  http://www.ifoedit.com/

I did what it said,  removed ALL files except the actual VOB files.  had to remove the menu (VIDEO_TS VOB) one as well.  I left it at first but would still get the error.  removed it and it worked.   tried to just remove it without running the vob's  through IFOEDIT but it wouldn't work.

ran the vob's through IFOEDIT and it worked like a charm.  burned without error, plays fine.  I ripped the new copy and burned it and it also burns without error.  it did remove the menu (see above).  not a big deal on the dvd in question as it was a very generic one anyway.  the program also looks like it has lots of other cool stuff in it.  hope this helps some of y'all.

didn't know that.  my $40 player plays PAL so I haven't needed to do that.

a way to do it and not get rid of the menu

after ripping with DVD Decrypter open the files with dvd shrink.  you do not need to shrink them so just leave them as is.  then back up the full dvd.  99% of the time the new backed up one will be free of the error.

you can tell my the file size if it needs to be shrunk ;)

I'm not talking about shrinking it to fix it.  I mean just open the files and do a back up with the files at 100% ,no shrinkage ;)

That error means that you are missing an instruction file for the dvd.  YOu should never get that error if you're doing your dvd burning properly.  Get this program called AnyDVD and have that running to bypass the copy protection.  A box pops up telling you the size of the disc (single or dual layer) and if it's single layer you just have to use Nero to make an image of the dvd and then burn the image to a blank.  If it's a dual layer you just open up dvd shrink and set it up how you want and compress the shiznat.  What you probably did to get that error is to manually delete or add something to the disc that hasn't been written into the information packet for the dvd, iie. player instructions.  You can get other programs to split a dvd onto 2 discs if it's too big to fit on a single disc and the menus will be in tact and everything.  Basically just make sure than every VOB file you have ready to burn has a matching IFO file.  Good luck...don't be scared to ask more geek questions either.
Really not very evil at all now...

i have dvd shrink/nero configured so when dvd shrink is done shrinking/backing up the dvd, nero automatically kicks in and starts burning
