I just picked up a Sony HDR-CX240
Two questions:
1. What's the best way to mount it on my stand?
2. Are there any important settings I should adjust before hitting start?
I'm just looking to mount it on there, hit start and let it run. I used to know a little about video, but that was a long time ago. I'm not looking to become an expert, just want to get some decent footage at shows.

It is very important to set and lock the focus otherwise the camera will go in and out of focus especially if there is a ligh show.Also the same for set and lock the exposure.

Great advice!! Do those two things and you almost can't go wrong.

^ Yes and yes...
Manual focus (you're generally far enough away that if you lock the focus in the center of the stage all will be more than close enough to in focus). Nothing worse than autofocus panning in and out through an entire video (which essentially means everything is way out of focus).
Manually set exposure for the bright lights. In show environments with really hot lights you have to manually dial the exposure down so the subjects aren't washed out fireballs.
Third: Plug in a mic (unless you have an outboard audio source and really want to fiddle with trying to synch things up later).

Just another take on this scenario ~~~
When recording audio separately, I prefer to not plug a mic into my camera's mic in jack. I few times back in the day while shooting video, I plugged a mic into the videocam's mic in jack. This was before I got into the habit of also recording audio separately. On a few of those occasions, something went wrong with the plug-in mic (not seated all the way in the jack) and I ended up with a nice video and no audio.
So now that I always record the audio separately, I just let the camera's internal mics record audio. That way, if something goes wrong with the outboard audio - at least I've got camera audio. And yes - camera audio usually sucks - but it's better than nothing.

Pretty sure this thing does not have a way to plug in my audio. I am primarily in this for the audio, but have been thinking about picking up a camera just for archival purposes, and the price was right on this one...
Any tips on mounting to my mic stand? I have a ton of clamps, but nothing with the right size mount.

I use either a superclamp, a short extension arm and manfrotto articulating arm like this Impact brand one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/850345-REG/impact_bhe_107_2_sec_articulated_arm_w_o.html (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/850345-REG/impact_bhe_107_2_sec_articulated_arm_w_o.html)
or a cheap little flexible gorilla arm type thing that I bought at Best Buy. It's 1/4 thread on both ends so I use it with a superclamp instead of the crappy clamp that came in the package.
I like the flex arm for the stand and the articulating arm for railings.

I second the recommendation to use something like a superclamp. A less expensive option is a camera mount for a bicycle from eBay for about $7.00 but you may have to add a ball head or something to get enough clearance between your camera and your stand.

As long as they are the right size, I'm sure you could do this. But why would you? Or did you mean, mics instead of recorder?
