Title: Lossless portable player?

Embarrassed to say I've never owned one, my Sony CD player finally died.  ;D ;D  ::) Looking at a fiio X1 player for like 100, about what I want to spend. Any thoughts? I don't care at all about internal memory, SD memory is just fine.

IMO, in traditional portable environments (working out, commuting/traveling, etc.), you'll be HARD PRESSED to detect any difference between a lossless or high quality lossless recording.  I've developed an easy workflow using foobar2000 to convert my lossless recordings to high bitrate (320kb vbr m4a) lossy for use on my iphone.  This eliminates the need for me to carry an extra device and, using bluetooth headphones and car audio interface, doesn't even require me to plug anything in.  FWIW

Why don't you just listen to FLACs on an app like VLC on your smart phone?
