Howdy,
I use my M10 with Church Audio card mics (CA-11 + CA-14 cards), and no matter how I position the mics, the left channel is always slightly stronger.
This occurs when I go line in with the Ugly 2 preamp, and also when I go mic in (PIP) with the CA-11s. Is this natural for the M10?
I have two M10 decks and they both have the same issue. I am able to balance the recordings in post.
However, my friend claims that one recording in particular (acoustic rock), has a significantly stronger left channel, even after I mastered and balanced this recording.
I was standing in a sweet spot in the middle/back area of the floor at a local rock club when I taped this show.
I should mention that I mount my mics on a fedora hat, usually above both my left and right ears.
Therefore, there is an equal distance between each mic.
I could provide samples if there is interest.
I am going to tape one of my favorite hard rock bands on Saturday night and want to make sure everything is properly setup before then.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm going to say your mics are not balanced and favor the left.
It seems odd to me that you would have the issue with two recorders in multi configurations
Do you have another set of mics or another recorder to test?
The next test you can run is using the built in mics and set it down in front of a home speaker and see if the meters match. Playing white noise would be the easiest to see since it would be consistent
As for your friend, if you leveled out the recording he shouldn't hear a difference unless maybe a particular "channel" was stronger coming from the pa. For example if it was a stereo mix the guitar might have been more left/right and in that case you are possible going to notice it.

If you are using the Ugly 2 preamp it has miniaturized trimmer controllers for output level control.

Here is my test.
Both M10 recorded 1K tone via aux cable and I scanned the original file and recorded files. The M10(Red) is older by 2 years.
- L/R difference (dB)
Source / M10(Red) / M10(Black) : 0.0 / 0.81 / -0.36
- M10 setting
Mic-in / Low sens / Level 5.0

It's more likely the mics. Mini mics are always unmatched (often substantially so). I've gotten balanced recordings on my M-10 when using matched phantom powered mics/preamp in a central location. My SP's are usually about 1dB off from each other (whether using the same Tinybox preamp or direct).

I have the same issue in one of my units--its the recorder, about a 10db difference. The other unit does not have the same problem.

Are you referring to the internal mics or external mics ?
And if external is it 10db difference through both the mic and line input?
