Recommend a good sd memory card?
« on: March 10, 2008, 02:19:08 PM »
Just bought one of these.

Canon PowerShot SD950-IS

Not familiar with what cards are good in this format... thanks for any help!

Manual says it can use

SD memory cards
SDHC memory cards
MultiMedia cards
MMC cards
HC MMC Plus cards

I'm confused.   ;D

MultimediaCard (or MMC for short) have more or less been replaced by SD cards (Secure digital). MMC can be used in quite a few devices that supports SD cards (like your camera for example). I think SD cards are cheaper and are available in bigger sizes plus they support higher transfer speeds. My advice is to buy SD or SDHC cards unless you have some other device that specifically uses MMC as well and you want to use the same media.

SDHC means HIGH CAPACITY. Straight SD only go up to 2 or maybe 4GB. HC is a slightly different format (not backwards compatible with gear that calls for SD but not SDHC) and goes up to 32GB.
