Don't blame the messenger I'm only sharing the news I got in an e-mail today.

I'll be sticking with the current version myself, just not interested in moving to Lion or Mountain Lion for several reasons.  Yeah, it's also a bummer that there is no upgrade deal for current users but anyone who purchased Wave Editor recently including the reduced price spring sale offered in May will get a license key to the new version for free.

They actually left out the bit about changing the name because there is already a program called Wave Editor in Apple's App Store which is now the recommended purchase method for the new release.  Not a surprise though that they elected to put a positive spin on the name change instead of full disclosure.

Hopefully they'll continue to support the current version of Wave Editor.

not shooting the messenger at all...

just a little discouraged that I bought the program less than a year ago, and now, if I want to stay current (with an upgrade to mountain lion) I have to buy the program again. so, in essence, the program is costing me $180 not $89. and what I am really worried about is that this will be a pattern, and in another year, they are gonna call this something else, and I will have to fork over $90 yet again...

Take a listen to this interview with Audiophile Engineering... http://squarecad.net/ArchivePages/squarecad21_audiofile.html

I've been using the current Wave Editor for 3 years now, which has had several minor but free incremental updates.  I was actually looking forward to 2.0 as a major version update until I saw the minimum requirement of Lion.  The news of no discount for this next version stings a little too, even a $10 discount would be nice.  Wish they'd kept the name instead of Triumph but it is obvious they didn't want to deal with the Apple App Store already carrying a program called Wave Editor.

I've read that the Audio quality in Lion is not as good as Snow Leopard and I don't know if Mountain Lion fixes that.

Consider us lucky that at least we're not running Bias Peak.

I haven't done much in WE since going to Lion (mostly use Sample Manager), but I have a bunch of recordings I'm about to start processing.

I think the issue was the removal of "integer mode" in Lion.

There was a big discussion about it over at gearslutz, don't remember details just the bottom line.

I do also have other reasons for choosing to stick with Snow Leopard but audio quality is not something I'd want to sacrifice.

For those of you familiar with SRC and Dithering in Wave Editor I just have a quick question for you.

I know you do the SRC first, then dither.

My question is if i recorded a show at 24-Bit when dithering do i select the range to be 24-Bit or 16-Bit?  I assume 24-Bit as the range (just for the dither) and then save as 16-Bit and that will do the Bit-Depth conversion.

At least that is what I gathered from their manual on the topic.

Can anyone confirm these steps?
AKG481's > Hi Hos > Naiant MPD-12 > Shure FP24 > Schoeps SCH-501 1/8" > Sony PCM-M10
DPA 4061's | AT853's (SC, C, O) | Tinybox | PIPsqueak | Darktrain/GAK | Audition CS6 | iZotope

nope.

for  example, I record at 24/96. then I src to 44.1. then I dither in the 16 bit space. then save the wav to a 16 bit wav. if you do it the way you mention above, you are just truncating the last 8 bits, and that is not advisable. if you do it the way I suggest, you dither to 16 bits, the rest are just zeros. then when you save to a 16bit wav file, you are dumping the extra zeros. there is a PDF manual for ozone that describes this better than I just did, but that is the jist of it.

hope this helps.

the current version works just fine in 10.8.  You don't have to buy anything

it's not something you would be sacrificing if you switched to 10.7 (or 10.8 ).
