Topic: Marantz 661 troubleshooting help?

So I just bought a new 661 from Doug with the wmod. Went to see a good local Cumbia band at a food truck festie. Levels looked a little too stable and sure enough when I put the phones on, nothing but brick wall static.....I was about 20 feet from the band with split omnis at 9 feet on a riser. It even bricks during the dj music, which was not loud. Levels around 7-8 to get to -6 peaks. And overall, e band was not loud, even that close.

There is no chance I had the preset on internal mics, and gain was set to -18 phantom on. It's not the line audio OM1 or the new Gak cables, I ran those without incident a couple of weeks ago onstage 2 feet from a kick drum.

I'm thinking the 661 is bad I know Skaggs got one like that, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like the -18db was not kicking in. I'm not doubting it was set that way, but if you have it as a preset, you may want to double check to see if it is still showing up as -18db. If it is showing correctly, there may well be an internal problem that is not allowing that setting to kick in, at least that is what it sounds like. While I never has an issue with my presets on my PMD661, I did have issues the first time I set up the presets on my PMD 620MKII, and some of my settings ultimately were not set as I thought I had set them. Thought of that, but both decks are doing it, and both are most definitely at -18. It sounds like the inputs are clipping, but only with my line audits, not the 4022s. So seems that the om1 and 4022 may not play well together.
