10-14-83 vinyl vs cd
« on: April 03, 2016, 08:34:59 PM »
I just transfered my vinyl to a 24/96 from my hot rodded Thorens td 150mkii, Michell Tecnoarm and Grace V3. I then compared it to the cd, which I burned to a file. I won't say which one is better but to these ears the vinyl/24/96 file sounds real good.

Gone is the etchy and splashy sound of the cymbals, as well as the slight glare the cd has. The vinyl sounds much more pleasing to these ears. I'm not sure how much was done in the mastering of the vinyl, but boy does it sound good, when compared to the cd.

If you have a table, and you like this show, or you were there, you should pick up the vinyl. You won't be disappointed.

Also, I will hightail my transfer to the first 3 responders that will compare and post their findings here.

Takers?

Ray

I don't want to threadjack, as I can't do vinyl, but that was one damn fine GD show! I was lucky to be at the entire fall tour and even though they retired brought back St Stephen on 10-12-83 (had been "retired" for several years), the 10-14 show certainly had it's moments.
edited for clarity about St. Stephen's "debut"!

That's the beauty, you don't have to do vinyl..... I'll  hightail you the 2 files and you can judge and provide feedback. I was at 6 falls shows and really enjoyed both these nights. St. Stephen was special.

I'll definitely do the listen and provide feedback Ray. I didn't comprehend the initial post. Although I listen primarily through a computer with Audioengine A-2's. Hopefully some others with higher end playback can also compare, then we would have some good feedback for you.! THANKS for the offer!    :-*
