Marantz PMD620mkII
« on: September 02, 2016, 10:00:47 AM »
Anyone running a Marantz PMD620mkII??
Any thoughts?
Any comps between that and a Sony PCM-M10 or any other small recorders?
Any differences from the PMD620 (original version) other than layout of inputs outputs..  any differences in sound or quality?
I haven't found much info on TS regarding the mkII, so I figured I'd ask around..
Thanks.

Rodeen and I both have one. I run it a fair amount. I like the layout better than the original, but I doubt there is any sonic difference. It reminds me of a mini PMD 661 without digi. The menu structure is very similar with presets and all. It is really small, about the size of the Roland R-05, which is my other handheld go-to.

Everything dallman said plus it is the cutest little recorder, like a mini-661.   I am looking forward to seeing the 551.

New to the forum and, like the UK generally about 20 years behind everyone else! I own a PMD 620 and I love it -I use a preset set up, lock all buttons 20 minutes before a show and it's never failed except when "new" batteries have died on me.
I have a query though. I have used Church Omnis for the past 3 years but one just fell apart during a concert and I'm looking for a suitable stealth lavalier pair. They're almost impossible to find this side of the pond and the tax and postage rates currently make purchasing a pair from the U.S. prohibitive. Any advice on a suitable set of mikes please ? I don't use a battery box as the PMDs phantom power works really well as far as I can hear. Thanks !

I don't know how it sounds yet, but I like the look/layout/design of this better than any other handheld decks out at the moment for whatever reason :) And it def does look like a small 661, which I like too! I have no need for a digi in/out, so this is even better than a 661 for me, even though I prefer locking XLRs over 1/8" mini plugs, but its still my favorite looking deck! And I like the screen and how it shows the levels! Just overall looks like a decent handheld! Id like to own one of these and give it a try :)

If anyone has any links to how this thing sounds LINE IN, please LMK :)

This is what I use for most of my recordings... Busman BSC1 > Naiant Tinybox > Marantz PMD620 MKII
For festivals I've been using Busman BSC1 > Zoom H4n and just ordered a Marantz PMD661 MKII Oade Concert Mod
