Correct - it is all 1's and 0's

We as a group tend to flood the market with 1's and 0's...  what mic, what A/D, etc...

Far to many of the end users simply take the data and do exactly what we don't want them to...  Encode to MP3...

Quick story - I was at the beach with a freind last weekend and he defied me to tell the difference between his 'CD' Quality mp3 and the source disc...  When he played the first source I told him in only a few seconds that this was the mp3 and he asked why - I told him that the highs were weak and the lows were muddy and undefined..  next the CD.. simple..  He preformed the same test a few hours later when I was feeling pretty good with the same result.

Encoding virtually all of what is out there today as far as posted recordings will yield a viable mp3...  that is not the goal!!!

mp3 IMO is part of the dumbing down of society...  settlilng for something that is second best and it iis just like loosing!

BTW - who came is second in the last NBA finals? Who CARES !

When you see a speed limit sign that says 65 do you stop at 65 or push it just a little?????  mp3 drives 55!

I CAN'T DRIVE 55!!!!!!!

maybe i'm not paying attention, but i've never seen one of my seeds encoded to mp3..... and I've seeded a coupla shows. If someone wants to do so, I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. I think the pool of etrading is being kept pretty darn clean between all of the BT sites, and it polices itself very well, imo.

I think that was a subtle attempt to discourage the open piracy of software. But I an't one to gossip, and you ain't heard that from me :P

;) Yeah, please take no offence but you didn't download a crack of the 722 did you? Wavelab 5 is a lot cheaper than that hardware. You can't be that broke. But I understand your thinking...

I agree 100%!! Promoting poor quality as a standard is a bad idea - this is something that bugs me about itunes and the like - The dumbing down of society (nice!) is exactly what you get - people think crap is good (quality) - and I really do not think $0.99 a song (for low quality) is really that good of an idea [/rant]

sorry if I began to hijack this thread - it just got me goin' ;)

It all good..  As for being broke - the 722 is speeding me on my way there.  Keep in mind that one toy begets another and so on.  Battery $85, More concert tickets because, well because, (beerages at shows too). Extra hard drive for home computer to handle huge files, blank DVD's out the wazoo..  It all adds up...

Where would any of us be without the generosity of others. Remember when we were just patchers, or how cool it was when we had our first CSB's -  That was it, we were jammin, and it was usually someone a litte further along in the game that was our mentor/influence on what to buy and why.  This whole community is about helpin' out the other guy/gal.

As for the music quality issue - we all agree - Get the best you can out of your equipment, exactly what I plan to do.

As for sharing - I admit it, I am slow a times but that is just the way it is.

MP3 - Just not a fan, I don't like what it represents to taping...  Think about this - my post begins life as 24/192.... it is snaged, ditherd to 16/44.1 (cut buy over 50%) and then encoded to MP3, how much of the original recording is really left, 30-40%.

I knew I should have checked in sooner...

You will be spending alot on storage with 192khz files!! Whats the math on that anyway? How much MB per minute? Any idea? I'm too dumb/lazy to figure it out. I'm sure you'll find your software. I'm not trying to make a big deal of it seriously. Maybe google can help you even.

24/192 has to be ~4gb per hour, because 24/96 is 2 gb per hour, and its double...so...

I think you are correct...  the files are just huge..  Hopefully the definition will be worth the extra work, space, time, etc...

Will let everyone know in a few weeks..
