Wavlab transfer help....also Soundforge ?
« on: August 18, 2003, 05:32:27 PM »
Ive been trying to transfer my DATs to my comp through wavlab and just cant get it to work.  I start recording and at 2 hours it cuts off and nothing is on the comp.  I set it up to record at least 3 & 1/2 hours anyone have any ideas? Oh and theres tons of room on my comp. :'(

Another problem ive been having recently is with soundforge.  I record the music onto the comp. no prob then when I go to save it, it says that the file is too large or something like that (ill go check and re-post with the exact phrase).  SF even estimated I have room for 70 hours of 16/48 recording space of my drive. ::)

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Kevin

1. what soundcard are you using (out of curiosity)?
2. make sure your temp file is on a drive with plenty of space, check this in the options
3. what bit/sample rate are you recording at?  hopefully only 16/44.1 or 48 (from your dat), but if you're recording at 24/48 or higher it takes up more space and you only have 2gb before the file goes over the limit....maybe try the autosplit function in wavelab.
ahhhh....

why are you recording at 24/48???  i know your dats are not 24bit....
try changing the setting.

hmmmmm....i can't think of anything else at the moment....maybe later tonight if i have time at home i'll take a look at my software and we could compare notes to see how it's set up.  in the meantime, you should go through the options in either program, take screenshots of each page, and post them up here, that would help jog my memory (as well as others' i'm sure) so we can see if there's any glaring mistakes set in your options.

Remember the Windows file size curse... you can't have a file larger than 2GB.
Bam.

This is horrible!  Didnt remember that but let me check and see if it is 2gb, is there a way around it?  What about splitting it into 2?

Gotta split it up, I believe. There's been a lot of discussion about this very subject both here and on Oade in the past year. Read up them archives and you might find a better solution or some kind of quirk.

WHat are you transfering that is larger than 2gb? If it's a 2 set show split the show at the set break mark.

Are you trying to put a 90m dat in for transfer? There is a choice for 2 hr or 2 gb when you goto record the file. Make sure it's set to which ever works for you. So if it's set to 2hr then set it to 2 gb. That way your safe.

I have had this issue come up in SF 6.0e and it is always usually a size issue. What I do is just choose to save as a .w64 file it is SF proprietary file format it is lossless. Just save it .w64 has no file size limit other than your HDD and then split it where necessary

After I split it i save it as an individual wav file. With a 16/48 recording though it would have to be very long to reach a size limit. Be sure to check that you are recording at the 16/48 and not 24. I have never had this problem with 16/48 because 2 gigs is like 3 + hours
