DIY battery wire surgery (tamiya)?
« on: February 07, 2009, 12:59:53 AM »
The FR2-LE takes RC batteries. Good! My 4200mah RC batteries have cabling that is almost 4 inches long. Bad! (almost no spare room in the battery compartment)

Whats it going to take it shorten this to say, 2 inches and put the connector back on? Any advice from people who have done it?
"This is a common practice we have on the bus; debating facts that we could easily find through printed material. It's like, how far is it today? I think it's four hours, and someone else comes in at 11 hours, and well, then we'll... just... talk about it..." - Jeb Puryear

I've done it. No problems, but you have to solder.  Don't short the batteries either...

radio shack has a repair kit too
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062132
no soldering needed - but it doesn't say how long it is
you could cut off the crimp to shorten it by purchasing new ones too
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

Radio shack USA has the coolest shit.. Nobody sells stuff like that anymore... very cool the Canadian "THE SOURCE" Sucks by comparison. I remember the days of the old radioshack were you could buy three wire capsules lol....They didn't necessarily sound good but for $15.00 bucks you could make a stereo pair of mics..

4 inches from where the wire exits the Tamiya connector to the far end of the pre-crimped bullet connector; so if you want shorter leads you'll also need to purchase a couple of said bullet connectors

< the other kit I have has pre-stripped ends with loose bullet connectors, also 4" >
