V3 won't power up
« on: December 17, 2007, 01:15:40 PM »
Tried the toothpick trick and it didn't work.  I took apart the cable and noticed the two wires inside got crossed and must have shorted out something.  When I noticed the cable being crossed I re-soldered it back on and put a spacer between the two terminals and tested the polarity of the tips with a multimeter.  It still doesn't work.  Looks like I have to send this in unless somebody here has another trick they could share.

Thanks.

the two wires in your power cable?  if so, just buy a new one.  i would suggest the one that ed makes at kindkables.

Well I should add when I noticed the cable being crossed I re-soldered it back on and put a spacer between the two terminals and tested the polarity of the tips with a multimeter.  It still doesn't work.

My V3 rest right on one of Ed's power cables in my nova 4 bag all the time and I have never had a problem with it.  A very worthy but small investment when you think of what you have paid for your rig.

Have you done the rubber mod on the power pin?  Essential.

Just cut off a little piece of a rubber band and stick it in between the pins on the power end.

It's the long term toohpick fix.     ;D

I thought there was a thread with pics but apparently not....

Even if you buy the specified switchcraft threaded connector and tighten the hell out of it, the connection will not be consistent unless the center pin is in the right state.  As tough/sturdy as the threaded switchcraft connector looks, I think it is a weak part and combination.. Having to do this fix is silly..

The fix is to spread the pin apart with a tiny screwdriver or toothpick.  The best fix is to wedge a tiny, tiny piece of rubber (from a rubberband) in the pin so it always has just a bit of tension spreading the halves apart.  That pin MUST splay to maintain constant contact with the connector ID.

I consider it a must-do mod Before you have problems in the field and ruin a recording.. My v3 was very new when I had the problem.
