anyone know of a cheap dc powered device that will playback usb storage devices (small hard drive(power also?) or thumb drive) that have flacs/wavs/mp3 on them with rca or stereo 1/8"(mini) out? it would be easier than firing up the computer. thank you in advance

Sansa Clip+ works nicely with MicroSD cards and you can buy them refurbished.  Sound quality is great and the low impedance headphone output has minimal hiss even with sensitive IEMs while still being able to drive less-sensitive headphones to good levels.

The UI is kinda confusing and battery life isn't great, but it gets the job done.

I accidentally ran mine through my washing machine last week; let it dry out, and it still works!

+1. And do not forget to Rockbox it for extended possibilities...

Sorry: I skipped the washing machine episode with the Sansa Clip. But it's OK for some USB flash drives.  ;D
