Replacement 6 volt / 7.2 ah ECO Charge battery?
« on: February 01, 2016, 10:44:22 PM »
I need to replace my ECO Charge BP-50 six volt / 7.2 ah lead acid battery. I pried off the top plate on the old one and want to reinstall on a new battery.
This one looks like it's the same size, so the cover should fit.

http://www.batterymart.com/p-6v-7ah-sealed-lead-acid-battery.html?gclid=CPbqhs2N2MoCFU9hfgodpA8K2w

It's a six volt / 7 ah sealed lead acid battery. Does it matter that the old one was 7.2 ah and this one is 7.0 ah? Should my ECO Charge charger charge it OK?

This one is less than $10. Seems kind of cheap. Is there another (better?) battery that is the same size and specs? Any recommendations? I want to use the same nylon bag and same charger. I need the battery to be the same size as the old one so that the plastic top plate, with the dual 4-pin XLR jacks, will fit.

Thanks for the advice,

ONT, there is an old thread (2014??) from kindms where he shows how he replaced one of ours, I searched but couldn't find it. That cost is about what I recall him telling me it was- iirc he definitely paid under $20.
Maye PM him and ask?

I saw the thread where Dave Mallick described in photos how to do it. I just need a recomendation on a good battery. I found this one too while doing more searching. It is exactly like the BP50: 6 volt, 7.2 ah.

This is the same brand (Werker) that Dave used. Is this a better choice?

ONT I found the kindms thread: http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=168972.0

he provides the replacement battery information and pictures- this is the pertinent stuff:
Quote
The suggested replacement battery from eco-charge is the:

Panasonic LC-R127R2P Black Large 12V 7.2Ah VRLA Battery with F1 Terminal

Now it turns out that the supplier sent me the F2 terminal version. so the terminal spades were much larger than the original eco-charge. But no biggie I made it work. just had to pinch the connectors a little to make them a tad wider. But the form factor etc is spot on and it is the exact battery that the original eco-charge batteries were using. I added a little silicon adhesive to under the caps and pushed them back on. Below you can see the two batteries that have been brought back from the dead

Mine is a six volt. Not 12 volt.

These are the dimensions of the Werker battery:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C80Q004/ref=dra_a_rv_mr_hn_xx_P1400_1000?tag=dradisplay-20&ascsubtag=5b8f712c20d6d1681548474dd3a0d419_S
Physical Dimensions:
Nominal Voltage: 6V
Nominal Capacity: 7.2Ah
Terminal Type: F1
Weight: 3lbs
Length: 5.94" (151 mm)
Width: 1.34" (34 mm)
Height: 3.70" (94 mm)

This seems to be the exact same size as the dimensions you posted.

ONT- I'm sorry, reading comprehension must have escaped me on this.
1] the dimensions I originally posted are cut/pasted from your post above.
kindms was able to contact Eco Charge for a recommendation as he mentions in his post- but here is what I found about the BP 50:
http://www.ecocharge.com/batteries_bp50.html
BP-50 Specifications
• 6 volt, 7.2 amp hour
• Dual output XLR connectors
• Auto short circuit protection
• Max. current draw: 3.0 A @ 50º C
• Dimensions: 6 x 1.4 x 5

So the battery you found seems to be close except for height- it may work! and is strikes me Eco Charge's height measurement includes their top, so it is real close.
Hopefully someone else can help to confirm, but I would say you may have found one that works!
I just checked greenones thread, you have found the exact one he used! http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=119878.0
Good luck!

battery height doesn't matter as the cap fits on top of the battery once done.  As long as the width/length are the same, the top should snap right on (or be capable of being held on with some tape/glue)
