From the UA-5 FAQ:

How do I power the UA-5 in the field?

The UA-5 accepts both 9v and 12v.  Most UA-5 owners seem to be running DIY RC battery packs for their power, though some are using DIY or retail SLA battery packs.

I don't believe 6v will cut it.  From what I've read, phantom power goes iffy using 6v.

The supplied AC powersupply feeds 12V.  I have succesfully run my UA5 off 7.2V NiMH and 12v SLAs
