Power Source?

Ok, say i have a minidisc, and a microphone. i know it really sucks, but bear with me. i dont want to buy a battery, can I plug into a socket, and what cable(s) would i need to do it?

because AA batteries are so expensive and hard to come by these days... ???

for me it's telling which side is positive and negative.  I always fuck that one up.
