744 digital input
« on: July 27, 2009, 10:44:29 AM »
So I am new to the 744 and it looks like the only digital input is female BNC. All I have are SPDIF cables. Could this adapter + my spdif cable be used in lieu of a BNC to RCA (spdif) cable?

If not, what do you use and where did you get your cable from?

monoprice.com sells BNC->RCA adaptors of various gender combinations.  Here's an example:

Yup.  One of the things on the list for all new 744 owners are those adapters.

FWIW, you can usually find these types of adapters locally at electronics/parts/tv repair shops.  Doubtful on Best Buy type big box stores but Radio Shack should stock them.

Also you can go digitally into the 744 via AES/XLR.

I use the AES/XLR when going digital in from my mini-me.

Radio shack has em in two packs I believe.  I think the last batch I got from Fry's
MK 4V > KCY 250/5 Ig (KS 10I)  > VST62IUg > 722

That's correct... 4 channels of AES on 2 XLRM.

Sennheiser 418s>SDMixPre-D>RO9HR
Beyer MC930>Fostex FM3>NagraSD
Couple of Schoeps CMT441 too.

are you saying that i could input 2 external digital sources via AES XLR to the 744t simultaneously? not that i'd need to do this, but i thought it could only accept one digital (2 channel) input at a time. it seems like i learn something new about this unit every month.

i would recommend swinging by your local radio shack and picking up a few BNC > RCA connectors. depending on how your 744t rests in your bag, you may want to consider a right angle BNC adapter.

I'm sure it varies from store to store.   Here is the link to their RA BNC connector.  Part#  278-116       It appears to be a bit smaller than the example a few posts up.

Unless this is a hidden 'new firmware' feature then no you can't record two digital signals at the same time.    Nothing in the 2.63 manual or on either the SD or ts.com forums to verify this potential new recording source ability.

I ended up going to ratshack and got a straight bnc to rca adapter for $6.70. thats all they had and to tell you the truth, it works just fine with my RA spdif cable. thanks for all the help and ideas. now I just need to order some more of them online as they only had one last night.
