Topic: Sega Nomad Battery Pack (nTapingc)

Sorry for the lack of taping content, but some of you folks are just gods in the portable power arena, so I'll post this question here.

I thought about getting a Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP, but realized there were only about four games that I really wanted to have. So I'm restoring my old Sega Nomad. The only problem I'm having right now is that my old rechargable battery pack has lost it's magic years ago, and these days I'm luck to keep a charge for about fifteen minutes before it's dead - I used to get about an hour and a half of playtime on it.

So here's the info on the battery pack and the Nomad:

The Battery:

DC 7.2V 1600mAh Ni-MH - -c- +

The Nomad:

DC 9V 3.5W / AA Battery (LR6)x6

So it can also run on AA Batteries, but I usually had better luck with the big rechargable one.

Is there any place I can take my battery to be reconditioned and have the "stuff" inside replaced? Batteries like these are no longer made. And also, is there any kind of way to make it last longer? Like, some way to build a battery pack like the RC battery pack I made for my UA-5? I'd like to shoot for a 3 hour play time, if that's possible.

I have absolutely no idea, but I gotta give you a +t for being a fellow Nomad owner.

I'm surprised that you have the AA battery sled, though.  When I got mine I couldn't find one anywhere.  I haven't fired mine up in a while, and I assume the battery I have is pretty much dead, too...

Looks like the draw on it is .39 amps (Ah).   If you have a DC plug (or can get one that will fit) you have all kinds of options.

You could get an RC battery that would power it for a ridiculously long time.

A  AA batterysled that would also power it for a LONG time.


You could also get a regular rechargable 9 volt and rig a cable to connect it.

Nomad is cool, but i must say a GBA is totally worth a $99.  The design is flawless.  Plus games are mega cheap on ebay.  Just beat SMB 3 100% a little while ago.  God i love that game.  +t for powering a nomad
