Very cool new mic from the former AKG folks in Vienna. The app looks very useful - anyone heard of a street price on this?

The Polardesigner app which works with it is interesting.

It doesn't look like there is a download page yet. The mic just came out this week.

The plugin is even open source.

Great to know that all this talent won't be wasted. I don't have many AKG products, just a couple of SE300B+CK93 microphones, but they really kick ass with the piano at the jazz club.

Hey All:

I've been rocking a pair of OC818's for a minute now, and I love them.  Build quality is outstanding.

Cool.  I've been using the plug-in with my other dual output mics, there's a lot of power to be had there.

Very nice.
Great to see their classic design continued in a compact and modern form factor.

Please DO NOT mail me with tech questions.  I will try to answer in the forums when I get a chance.  Thanks.

I'm curious about dual output mode on the OC818. Is it just a second output of the same source signal?

It looks like the rear of the capsule has a separate output, which gives the polar design software such flexibility.

Here's a detailed review:

Yep, rear capsule available separately.  Choose polar pattern after the fact in post.  If you turn it 90 degrees so the capsules point sideways then it’s the same pattern as mid side with an omni mid.  Lots of options.   I have an MKH 800 Twin and a home made dual output TLM67 and use the post options all the time.  It’s really interesting to see what pattern works best in an unknown room after the fact.  The AA app has crossover points, so you can do really useful things like make the bass omni and hypercardioid above.
