« on: August 21, 2005, 01:01:04 AM »
Has anyone ever played around and mixed some sources together Matrix or ran a field mixer. Im very curious of what this might sound like.

At the Trey show 5/11/05 my friend and I recorded a surround mix - we used a pair of cmc6/mk4s x/y pointing forward and a pair of DPA 4061s point backward. They were mixed to 5.1 in post. Sounds pretty good. Let me know if you need it.

how did you point a pair of omni's backward?
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

how would one point a pair of omnis forward?   :P  Just messin'

I recently saw a website that sold a 5.1 headrig.  It looks like a miner's light for your head but has mics facing forward on the front and ones facing backwards in the rear.  Mics on my ears are one thing.  This thing was ridiculous looking.

Backwards, I know. ;)

We were trying to have front and rear pairs of mics - for this combo we thought the DPAs would match the Schoeps better than the 184s

We have done a few of these - Trey in Cinci (5/8 i think) TLM103s xy front, and KM184s ortf rear. Sounds ok. We did the same combo at MMW at the Byham in PGH (last fall, do not remember date) and it is really nice, probably the best. They are good surround mixes and a neat experiment - but next time (or in the future) I would like to use all Schoeps (or DPAs, or whatever) and the same pre/adc for consistency. I am trying to convince my friend to pick up Jef-O's V2/AD2K in the yard sale - then we get a 744t (or R4) and another pair of Schoeps and we are off and running....

Come on ts.com - let's see some more of this!!

If anyone wants to hear these - there are DVD-A and DTS formats available - pm away!! ;D
