Keep in mind these go for more.  The last 414 EB w/ Brasscap I saw on Ebay went for $1050!

really? wow, i guess i based my pricing on the newer XLII and the XLS/etc, sorry :)

You're also basing your expectations on what gear may go for here and occasionally flea bay. Some of the prices that come up here would have engineers and studio owners laughing their way to new mics in a heartbeat.

i dont base ANY price expectations on ts.com, i think ALOT of stuff goes here way too cheap, but i was basing on most ebay auctions for XLS matched paiur at 14-1600 MAX, i was def a few bills off :) i was just curious what the brass EB's ran, calm down AKG miclords ;D

One thing to keep in mind though - just because it's got a brass capsule doesn't mean it's going to sound good.  Those capsules have not been manufactured in over 30 years.  Even back then AKG's quality control was not exactly what the standard is today.  So it's perfectly possible (and in some cases, LIKELY) to have a newer teflon capsule that sounds better than a brass one.

The first models of the EB used the CK12 brass capsules, left over from the C12 and 412 models before it.  When AKG finally ran out they switched to the teflon capsule in the EB's.  Apparently if you do manage to find a brass capsule model, you should NEVER send it back to AKG.  They have been known to "upgrade" the older capsules to the newer ones, often without notifying the owner until it's too late.

Good luck.  FWIW, brass or teflon, I think the EB model is the best sounding 414 they ever made.  There's just something about it.

It will fit the 480 but it won't charge up. It will work on a 451/2
with the reduction ring available from AKG. I would buy it for far less
and the fact the guy spent $1200 shows a fashion statement involved. No
worries about capsule condition, AKG would replace it for $300. Yes, I
like the teflon flat capsules better than the brass ring models, they
are more linear and consistant. Something about a ruler flat 1" that
gets me excited.
BTW, I'm telling my friend with the CK-4 that one went for $1200. You
just might see another for bidding soon...
