Would a 9V DVD style adapter be of use to power my MR-1 despite the fact it is 5V?
Got a friend with an extra battery that will run long past a 2hour limit and need to see what can be used to power the MR-1 for lengthy recordings.
Thanks for any input/direction.

You'd have to put a voltage regulator inbetween to take it down to 5V, but previous threads warn about heat dissipation, power inefficiency and possibly other issues.

I know B&H was selling a 15$ AA battery sled that works great. I personally use a lithium ion external to power mine and this setup runs a long, long time. I taped 6 hours on one of these and it was barely depleted. If you need a second they're stackable or you can get a second and bounce off of the MR-1 battery for swap outs. A little pricey but worth it and quite bulletproof in construction.

I have heard the MR-1 is a bit finnicky about its 5v power so I might discourage converters. I've had no problems with the afore mentioned supply and the MR-1

i have started using walmart type l-ions with no voltage regulation no problem.
also use 8 aa sleds with nimh batteries 11.6 volts again no problem.
i think the walmart l-ion is the way to go.

is that for the MR-1 or your mr-1000?
for my mr-1, i use a vr box that i built...I ran my wendt x2 and my mr-1 for 3.5 days(wakarusa) on 2 dvd batteries and never ran out of power. I am contemplating letting it go, as I don't need it for a pre any longer...

that is for the mr-1. it's my back up deck to the mr-1000, so i figured what the heck. if i fry it oh well.
appears to work fine, been doing it for 2 months now. including the classical music festival i archived. 17 performances in 21 days, plus 4 or 5 other shows in that time, with no problems.
it seems that it is much more forgiving with it's input voltage than most of the other recorders out there.

Let me ask that just one more time... (in astonishment :o ).... you are running a 9V DVD player battery directly into an MR1 with no problems?

I got brave and tried this last night at a festival and it worked like a charm! Rolled a 9V 8000mah battery straight into the MR1 and zero issues.
Thanks Ed! I always wondered if an older 7.2V DVD batt would work, but I never thought a 9V would.

That's pretty cool - I've had issues with my MR1 where it's super finicky with 5v supplies - they better REALLY be 5v or it's chaos. It's great to know it's more forgiving on the upside. Now I need to get me some 7.5v s or 9vs....

I got brave and plugged mine into a 9V DVD player battery. No magic smoke. I bet 6V SLAs would be great too... kind of heavy and old school, but I can make a splitter cable for that and the V3 and share one battery.

So what is the tip size and polatity of the MR1?

One thing history has shown.... Devices with internal batteries draw a lot more juice if they are trying to charge the internal battery. That would be especially true with an old internal lithium that may have some internal shorting/high resistance. With the jb3; it was always best to remove the internals. Sometimes it would lock up if the charger circuit kicked in and the draw was too much for the external 5v supply.
So anyone with a toasted mr1 battery (or mt) would probably be ahead if they could remove it.
