AKG Naiant actives/Tiny Box Pin Layout
« on: February 20, 2019, 02:43:39 AM »
I will need a new pre since the battery of my backup tiny box is weak.  Does anybody knows the pin layout of the Naiant actives connecting to the Naiant TB.

Hope I the question makes sense.

Thanks in advance SF

Have you asked Jon? He might be able to answer.

If everything else fails, you could send it to me and I'll measure it for you.

I asked Jon about a battery replacement several times, but I guess there is not much time at the present to care about battery replacement.  I totally understand that, nevertheless I might need a replacement/back up pre soon.  Just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I get that. But have you asked him about the pinout of your box/the actives? :-)

Which capsules are you using?
Also, how many pins are present on the input of the tiny box? 5 or 6 pins?

The actives are made by Jon and I use the AKG 61,62,63 with the cable and I guess the Tbox has 6 pins but I will confirm later today.

The battery in the Tinybox is user replaceable. It just slides out and connect the new one to the connector cable. Reassemble and you are done!

Jon isn't shipping batteries outside the US so you are on your own on this one. There are a couple of threads here about how easy this is to do - even for not technically inclined users.

I started the research already and maybe I can have one build backhome, but it is not confirmed yet.

Nevertheless I need the pinlayout for future cables/pre amps projects since all my cables are pending on that pin configuration, and Jon is not building the active cables anymore.  So what am I gonna do with all the caps if that Naiant active cable doens't work anymore?

BTW:  The TB has 6 pins at the active/mic in see picture at the below link

I guess I have a 1.5 version and one of the last 6 being built in black

Have you checked this Tinybox link on Naiant's site for your cable question?

You have a male 6-pin mini XLR (or TA6M) connector on your tinybox. The pin configuration is probably like this:

pin 1: low-voltage mic power supply (for FET)
pin 2: right noninverting input
pin 3: left noninverting input
pin 4: high-voltage mic power supply (for polarization voltage)
pin 5: right inverting input (may not be used for AKG)
pin 6: left inverting input (may not be used for AKG)

You need to measure the voltages on pins 1 and 4, and you need to measure the resistance to ground (= chassis) on the signal pins. This information should be sufficient to build you a preamp.

This datasheet contains the pin numbers for male connectors): https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/393/TA_MS_CD-773078.pdf
