Topic: Covert 6v adapter to 4.5 volts

I figured someone here as more expertise on stepping down voltage.....here is the deal.

I bought my kid a clock radio.  It didn't come with an adapter.  The clock it negative tipped, and is rated for 4.5v.  I found a 6v 800ma adapter I can basterdize.  I would think that 6v (and I may be wrong) would be too much, and need to step it down closer to 4.5v

I know the UA5 adapter I made will work anywhere between 9v and 12v

What is the simplest way step the voltage down to 4.5v

if you wanted you could make a box to step it down
and while you are at it make one to run the ua5 and iriver off one battery - since the vr's come in 5 packs

I don't understand this phrase, but have you tried running the clock on the 6V adaptor? It should dissipate the extra volts as heat. That would be the simplest.

The 6v may or may not work.  I'd skip stepping it down and just get an inexpensive 4.5v wallwart.

i go to thrift stores alot, and often times there are TONS of wallwart power convertors  in huge baskets for a less than a buck each.  check your local goodwill or salvation army thrift store
