Tascam DA-30MKII & Maxell tapes
« on: September 08, 2006, 01:45:54 AM »
Hello all,
I have quick, but complicated question I hope someone can answer for me.  I just made a bunch of cassette -> DAT transfers for a friend.  He received the package in the mail today and his DAT deck ate the first tape!!!  I used my DA-20MKII deck to make the transfer and he used his DA-30MKII to listen to it.  What do you think it the problem?  I've had my deck for a year now and it has never eaten a tape.  This is the 2nd tape of mine that his deck has eaten!!!  Here's the twist.  He has tried brand new tapes of other brands and they work fine!!  What is going on here?  I've had one previous DAT trade and that person never had a problem with what I sent.  I am very confused.  Is my deck bad?  Is his?  media not compatible?  any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

Honestly, the DA-302 was one of the biggest POS DAT decks made. I've sent mine for repairs twice, and it's now sitting in my closet screwed up again. I just don't have the desire to keep throwing money at it. Check out the DAT Heads archives, I've not heard of anyone who didn't have multiple problems with theirs.

The idea of a dual well DAT deck was great in theory, but it just didn't work - hence why no other models were ever made.
