another experiment with Christmas lights
« on: December 19, 2007, 08:05:13 AM »
Here are three photos I shot last night, out of the camera without tweaking.  The exposures were for 5 seconds around f/16 and f/22 while  rotating the camera and adjusting the focus simultaneously.

So who's shooting their lights when they get home?  :)

The initial shot.  I might be on to something...

Next shot.  Yeah, definitely.

And there are colored lights too!

I've done 100's of these shots...  but these are pretty nice...  I like the middle one best...

For some real fun try some macro shots of sparks off a lighter...

Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

Great idea!  That also reminds me of "orange-peel fireworks," which might be cool.

Guess what--there's a "Bic" group on flickr.  Who knew?

And Thank You for the idea!  What I especially liked in your picture is how the individual flint projectiles explode outward from their trajectories.  I didn't get as many of those in my first attempt, but one of them is almost perpendicular.  Vectors in action, baby!

[edit: this was a wide-angle shot, cropped... i also plan to take your advice and go macro]
