Title: AKG CK69 single or pair?
Post by: OS_Taper on December 30, 2016, 04:40:46 PM
I recently found a reasonably priced CK69 long/short shotgun and I was curious if anyone has any experience with this cap for recording bands in 》1000 seat venues.  I was thinking of adding it to the rig as a single mono source pointed center stage, but was also thinking or picking up a second ro run a 'stereo' pair.  I have run the Naks with the CP4s in pairs and as a single but never the AKGs.

Thanks for any assistance and guidance.

the ck69 is a much nicer shottie than the Naks
I never ran the long tube when I owned them, but the short gun is really nice and flat with good rejection
I only ran them once with a pair of ck62s, but by themselves they sound nice when you need the directional pickup
Ted probably has much more experience with them than myself, hopefully he will chime in

Thanks Darby, I am excited about trying it out.  For now I guess I will just toggle between long and short with the single and see how I like it in the mix and if it is really a nice addition I will look to adding a second mic.

Here is a recent show from the Sherman Theater with just the ck69's.  I'm not familiar with this venue, but the recording sounds great!

Thanks Chris, it indeed sounds nice.  I was hoping more folks like Darby who had experience with the caps would chime in but oh well
