Can I Rockbox my 120GB ipod classic?
« on: December 21, 2008, 05:48:59 PM »
So, I've been given a new 120GB ipod classic. I checked Rockbox's site & from what I read it appears that the software won't work on this gen ipod. #1. Is that true? and if so #2. is there a similar application that will work on this ipod?

Playback: 70's solid state thrift scores

This is considered a 6th generation Ipod, right? No rockbox then:
"Work on Rockbox for the iPod Classic (sixth gen) has not begun due to firmware encryption that Apple places on all new iPods."
(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockbox)

No luck with ipodLinux either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPodLinux

I guess if the firmware is encrypted, no alternatives will work until someone manages to crack it... :P
