hey all,
looking for some help on storing cd's. I currently have them in paper sleeves stored in rubbermaid boxes. it works but i would like something better. I started putting them back in a caselogic book but it is a real pita. i figure it wouldnt be if they were only 2 discs per page not 4. I am approaching the 1k mark on discs maby more.
I would love to have some sort of drawer system. but havent found one yet that is affordable.
any ideas

I keep mine in jewel cases. It takes up a lot of space, but I built shelving into my office to accomodate them. Earlier this week I snapped a couple photos:

Pics were taken with a Zire PDA, so please excuse the quality...

Kinda like scottt's but not as creative. got another one on the other side of the room. Equal to about 2400 Cds. JohnR's idea is wayyyy more affordable and easy.

I use 2 plastic drawer systems on wheels that you can buy at OfficeMax, Container Store, etc...
kind of like this:

works great!
I'll try to snap a couple pics when I get home and post back here (that is - if I remember)...

I bought a cheap dresser . and then cut a soda or beer box in half (long way's) and they fit nice.
I get 5 rows of Beer box's with roughly 150 disc's per box. An estimated disc count is around 2400 disc in audio format. And another 23 spindles of Shn/flac's. (you do the math) And about 94gb of stuff on the ftp server
the bad thing is this still does not make it any easier to get them on your list... I gave up a couple years ago. and this was way before I started taping. so Now there just stacking up even faster.. :-\
I figured fk it. one day my children or someone is gonna stumble on a fat collection.
Good luck brother.

I have this new invention, it's called a "big box"....I can fit tons of cd's in there in any order(or no order) and due to a super-high tech invetion called "falling over", it automatically shuffles the cd's constantly :)

I don't know about racks or cabinets, but as for individual discs, Inland Tyvek Sleeves (http://www.outpost.com/product/3556144) are without a doubt the best method. 100 double sided sleeves for $4.99. Now tell me, where else can you house 200 CDs in Tyvek for under $5?

Not me. I'm no early adopter. I'll wait until you guys workout the bugs. Until then, I'll just keep adding to the assorted stacks I have on every horizontal surface in the house.

I like the Univenture sleeves, especially the gatefolds. Bags Unlimited carries them and Guitar Center sells them under their own name.
As for storing them (or the paper or tyvex), I like the "drawer" type CD cabinets. You can multiply the jewel box capacity by at least 4 to figure out what they'll hold. Easy access flipping through the discs, keeps them our of the light and dust, and looks nicer.
I have one that looks like this http://www.racksandstands.com/prods/Leslie-Dame-Enterprises/CD-150/Browse-by-Style-Drawer-Storage/0C2126/0PLE1035.htm
but it was handmade made by an ebay woodworker, has a tab for labels outside the drawer like a library card file, and cost less.

"adroni_accents" but there are various mass-produced iterations of the idea around too.
