sorry- I'm kind of telling a couple of stories here rolled together!

Although my Portadisc is my nominal fullsize recorder at the moment, when I'm using the single point stereo I'm recording to my Sony MZ-RH1 (linear PCM) as it fits in my jacket. Although I do use this arrangement for gigs, it's not the primary use. I'd use it for city and people sounds (subway train and such)- anywhere I want an environment but it is inappropriate to use my full size rig.

All the nature/outdoor ambient stuff I do uses my full size rig.
Phillips N2233 "full auto shutoff"> Aiwa HSF-150 (x2)> Sony WM-D6C (x2)> Sony TCD-D3> Sony MZ-R3> Marantz PMD-650> Sony MZ-RH1> HHB Portadisc> Macbook 13"& M-box 2 +ProTools 8! and now Nagra LB!

Not my recording but searching around a bit for a CA-14 > 9100 > M10 (would be my pick for a stealth rig).  Here is a sample I found on the archive.

again not my recording, but good stuff for a very portable and very stealthy rig.. may not at all be what you are asking for but just depends on your budget and what your primary application will be.

Church CA14´s mounted on hat +  a leather jacket with lots of places to hide the Preamp and the recorder ... ;)
2015 rig: CA-11 -> CA-9100 -> PCM-M10
2016 rig: Sony PCM-M10 + SP-SPSB-4 microphone plug-in power supply +  SP-CMC8 with Low Sens mod
[backup: CA-9100 - Tascam DR-05 Firmware 2.0 + Yamaha Pocketrak W24]
video 2016: Casio EX-100 HS (same as Olympus Stylus1 - but much smaller - japan import not availiable in EU)
