SD v CF Recorders….

I have a CF Card Microtrack II, which needs replacement…

Is there any benefit of the CF Recorders over an SD Recorder?

Are CF Cards faster?

Sd cards are perfectly fast enough, in fact, they are used for broadcast standard high definition video, so they don't even get out of breath recording audio.

The Zoom H6 records 6 tracks plus a stereo safety track at 24/96 to SD cards.

CF is faster but newer SD (class 10 or newer uhc 1+) cards are certainly fast enough for 8 or more tracks of hd audio - sd is also easier to find and cheaper

Only a handful of recorders still use CF and they are higher end models

mabey down to capacities and interface compatibility then...

although, honestly- how many times have you had to remove the media from your machine to transfer it?

I tend to think- "what could I buy to replace this in Lima?" and that tends to decide a format- usually for powering actually...

Jumping in...

All the time, I pop the SD card out of my recorder and put it in the SD card reader built into the side of my iMac.  File transfer completed, eject the card from my iMac and pop it back in the recorder.  Much more efficient than fiddling around the back of the iMac to disconnect > connect > disconnect > re-connect USB cables for file transfers.  Digital camera, same procedure.  ymmv though!

I've had great success with the Adapter.  Jeff Mitchell got one for his Tascam SS-R1 and it wasn't compatible. 

For myself, the card speed isn't an issue.  Functionality matters most, ie you can get a micro SD card almost anywhere and there are no pins to bend...
