Battery advice please
« on: July 29, 2017, 12:32:26 AM »
Been in and out of the scene over the past few years. Went to tape a show last week and one of my "Wally world" DVDs batteries shorted out and won't charge now. Planning on just buying into a new battery solution and looking for advice please.

Rig is:
R44
V2(6v)
Mini me (6v)

My current setup is a custom cable assembly that on one end splits to all 3 pieces of my rig with appropriate power connectors. Then there is a 4pin xlr that joins to the other side of the cable. The other end splits into three plugs for the Wally world batteries wired in parallel. This allows me to either run two or three Wally world batteries depending on the length of show to power everything. I also designed it this way so that batteries are hot swappable.

Looking for a current battery that would power this rig for 4/5 hours.

Thanks and advance for everyone's help!!

You are aware that Lithium Ion wally world batteries have been refurbished with fresh 16850 cells...and most likely you can purchase cells with even more capacity than were installed originally.

Short of that are you locked into 9v batteries for your current setup? There are some nice inexpensive 12v batteries out there...Talentcell has both 12v and 9v outputs.

Just copied the same link. I run a sililiar set up and can run sd 302, mini-me, and r-44 for at least 5 or 6 hours on one of these. I usually bring two and run the 302 by itself. Pretty much could run 12 plus hours like that.

Thanks so much for the reply!  honestly the whole lithium battery exploding thing freaks me out.  is there someone on this board who would/could refresh my batteries for me?

I remember reading that the tekkon batteries were very popular but then saw that Dustin's exploded and almost burnt down his house!

Would love to move to a larger single battery like the Tekkon or the above amazon link :)

With my gear I could totally run 12v,,, is this generally considered a safe battery?

Does that linked battery really have a surface mount rocker power switch?  has it ever been accidentally pressed in a bag during a show???

These could work, but you would probably need a couple!

I'm currently using a rechargeable powerbank for my 744T, which I am happy with.  I use the 12V setting and can run a festival on a single charge. Mine is a 32000mAh variable voltage.
Normal: Nakamichi CM-700's >> SD 744T (or) Sony PCM-M10
Normal: Crown CM-700's >> SD 302 >> SD 744T
Fun times: 3 Crown CM-700's >> SD 302 >> SD744T + 2 Nakamichi CM-700's >> SD744T
Stealth: CA-14c >> CA 9200 >> Edirol R-09HR
Ultra stealth: AudioReality >> AudioReality battery box >> Edirol R-09HR
Simple & Sweet!

Steve

glad you saw my tekkeon post where there was a near miss fire at my house! i warned some others last weekend at dicks for phish that were still using a bunch. scary stuff

im using all naztech pb15000's now with my rig. all switcheable voltages, but im running all of mine at 12v

another option to consider may be the talentcell's on ebay. they have them with multiple outputs, the two i have are equipped with separate 12v and 9v outputs, as well as a usb

some are only 12v, and all varying capacities. i got the highest capacity offered when i bought mine

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TalentCell-Rechargeable-Battery-Packs-72W-132WH-12V-11000mAh-9V-14500mAh-DC-Ion-/222205174109?epid=1570721669&hash=item33bc75e15d:g:JtAAAOSwARZXndMx
hit me up if you have any questions about either!

im gonna be up your way for Mike Gordon Band coming up, i think. any interest in hitting that?

I've been using the largest capacity talentcell with 12v to mini-me, and 9v to r-44 for a while and haven't had any issues with the power switch(knock on wood). They have there own pocket in my bag facing up.

i dont have any issues with the switch either. i actually kind of like them. it takes a good pressure to switch them, they just dont float and flip at the slightest touch!
